Green Burial Council

Education

Consumers
The Green Burial Council has taken the lead in educating the public about eco-friendly cemetery/funeral options, in part, through embarking on a national media campaign designed to encourage receptivity for green burial that has resulted in stories on the subject placed in numerous national and local media outlets. We also directly assist consumers who are planning for a green burial and we will soon be making available educational materials to assist in this effort.

Deathcare Providers
The GBC has been working closely with trade/professional organizations to educate them on ways to embrace more environmentally sustainable practices/products including leading on-line courses, webinars and workshops in conjunction with organizations such as the National Funeral Director's Association, the International Cemetery, Cremation, and Funeral Association, and the Order of the Golden Rule. The Council has been invited to address the national gatherings of organizations like the National Selected Funeral Director's Association and Preferred Funeral Director's International, as well as state cemetery and/or funeral associations representing Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, & Wisconsin.

Conservation Community
Representatives of the GBC have made presentations on the use of burial as a conservation strategy to numerous land trusts, park service agencies, forest preserve districts, conservation developers and restoration ecologists. The Council has provided consultancy to organizations exploring this concept. And for the past three years, we have taught a workshop on conservation burial at the nation's leading gathering for conservation entities; the Land Trust Alliance National Rally.
